EXTENSIVE COASTAL SCENE, PEN, INK AND WATERCOLOUR BY SIR HENRY RUSHBURY c1920. SOLD.
Estuary scene with overcast sky signed by the artist. Framed and glazed. Dimensions : Frame : 505mm x 332mm x 16mm. Image : 325mm x 139mm. Condition : Good.
This work is typical of the English painter and engraver Sir Henry (Harry) George Rushbury (1869-1968). He was an official War Artist during 1914-18 and 1940-45. The watercolour, pen and ink study depicts an unknown estuary with an overcast cloudy sky with a few distant points of interest leading towards the sea on a tranquil afternoon setting. The painting is presented in double mount boards protected by a well sealed glazed wooden frame. The painting is in good condition except for a few foxing spots in the sky and along the foreshore. The painting is clearly signed in the artist's usual manner and beneath the signature is further script which appears to be "Harry 19" which could be 1919 which followed his first period as War Artist.
