H.M.S. Barham entering Valletta Grand Harbour Malta 1937. Oil painting on board signed by J. Adcock and dated 1975. The painting depicts the battleship entering the harbour during the Spanish Civil War wearing the red, white and blue stripes on "B" turret to identify neutral warships during the war.
Condition/Notes : The oil painting on board is in good condition with no signs of damage with the exception of two small dints to the surface ahead of the bow near to the frame edge at 158mm up from the rh lower corner. They are not noticeable in normal viewing conditions. The painting is signed J. Adcock and dated 1975 in the lower rh corner. The title H.M.S. Barham is printed in the lower lh corner. The painting is based on a famous photograph dated 1937-38. The cream, silver patterned wooden frame is in good condition. The oil on board is secured with framing pins and tape which has been torn in places around the edges. Screw eyes and cord attached. An interesting historical painting of this well documented battleship.
