Ringwood Church, Ringwood, Hampshire, viewed from Watermeadows, signed by the artist in monogram RE and dated 30. (The date can be taken as 1930 as the new Ringwood Church was built in the 1850's after the old Saxon church was demolished in 1853).
Watercolour on card, framed and glazed.
Dimensions : Frame : 390mm x 290mm x 11mm. Image : 245mm x 165mm.
Condition/Notes : The watercolour painting is in quite good condition with some light foxing spots in the sky. The colours are slightly subdued through aging but still capture the verdant nature of the Watermeadows which is still an attraction to this day. The church in the distance can be identified by its characteristic structure and that of the lower red tiled annex. There is some interesting handscript verso which can be seen below but which is difficult to decipher. The painting is displayed within an aged gilt mount but which is in quite good condition. The gilt wooden frame is sturdy with some scratching and scuffing around the edges. Glazing clear. The back of the frame has been resealed with new gummed 50mm tape retaining the original backing paper. Two old screw-eyes are attached. An interesting period watercolour which will benefit from identification of the artist's monogram. Please view the images below :
