Watercolour and gouache painting on paper entitled Camel train leaving the desert town, signed by Jamrack (G. Jamrack, British 19th Century Orientalist). Framed and glazed.
Dimensions : Frame : 421mm x 318mm x 23mm. Image : 227mm x 124mm.
Condition/Notes : The watercolour with gouache highlights depicts a camel train comprising five camels and figures leaving a desert town at the end of the day with the barren desert and empty cloudless sky dominating the composition. The sense of timelessness permeates the scene. The painting is in very good condition with no signs of foxing or moisture and is displayed within a traditional golden mount. The painting is signed in the lower lh corner. The mount is likewise in a good condition with very little wear. The varnished wooden frame is well constructed and quite good with small areas of surface loss. Glazing clear. Back of the frame is covered with a wooden board secured by old rusty panel pins and sealed with 2 inch gummed tape over another darker older framing tape beneath. Screw-eyes and cord attached. An interesting example of 19th Century Orientalist work by this known British artist. Please view the images below :
