Still-life study of cut blackberry vine, oil on panel, unsigned. 19th Century English School, c1900.
Dimensions : 445mm x 205mm.
Condition/Notes : The oil on panel still-life study is in quite good condition. The colours are still good but there is some slight paint loss around the edges of the panel. There is some light marking to the background surface. There is no visible signature. Verso is a part label attached at the lower edge which has a crest above "Barnard & Son" with "Student's" below. On the corner of this label is an artist's palette shaped stamp with "Hallott & Co., Gilders, Picture Frame Makers, & Artists' Colourmen, 44, Mansfield Road, Nottingham". This same stamp impression is also in the centre of the panel. Along the rh edge of the panel is handscript "Mrs Gadsby Lodge Farm Redhill Arnold" with more obscure text below. (This name and address is listed in "A History of Arnold" by Rev. R.W. King, published 1913). An interesting painting with historical provenance.
