Arabian Street Scene with Woman, gouache and watercolour on paper, signed A.W. Daniels, dated 1924. Framed and glazed.
Dimensions : Frame : 391mm x 291mm x 19mm. Image : 222mm x 146mm.
Condition/Notes : Good. The gouache and watercolour painting on paper is in good condition with good strong colours. There are no signs of foxing or moisture ingress. The painting depicts an Arabian street scene in an unknown MIddle Eastern town with a woman carrying water on her shoulder. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower rh corner and dated 1924. The painting is displayed beneath an old gilt edged mount which has foxing spots around the edges and appears to be the original board. The dark stained wooden frame also appears to be the original and is in reasonable condition with general wear around the edges. Glazing is clear. The back of the frame is plain wood with remnants of a backing sheet attached to the edges. The back is covered with a plain card sheet held in position by several panel pins. Screw-eyes and cord attached. An interesting early 20th Century Orientalist work benefitting from the artist's signature and date. Please view the images below :
