Portrait study of a lady with head-scarf, oil on card, signed V. Dashkov lower rh corner and dated 1962. Russian School. Framed.
Dimensions : Frame : 367mm x 305mm x 48mm. Image : 287mm x 228mm.
Condition/Notes : The oil painting on card is in good condition with good colour. The impressionist style impasto study is set against a verdant background and the artist's signature is in the lower rh corner with the date 1962. The signature is somewhat obscure although it appears to be written verso also which looks like Daceuceb B followed by further handscript. The signature has since been identified as V. Dashkov, a known artist. Please view the images below. The card base is generally in good condition although are two small areas near the edges - one below the signature and one to the mid lh side against the frame edge - where the heads of the retaining nails verso have rubbed against the base and caused some surface abrasion but it is not noticeable in normal viewing. There is some light horizontal undulation to the base which can be easily rectified by adding an appropriate backing board to the frame. The original carved wooden frame is in reasonable condition but with the usual wear and scuffing to the edges commensurate with age. The back of the frame is painted cream and the card base is secured by several large headed tacks. There is some staining to the base and light rust staining around the tacks. There is pencil handscript at the top of the base card which appears to be the artist's signature followed by 1938 (Birth?), script, geborica 1962? K.M. There is also print in black ink in Russian Cyrillic at the top lh side and mid-lower card. See the images below. This is an interesting study which will benefit from translation of the script.
