H.M.S. Hercules, sepia toned original photograph, framed and glazed. c1917.
Dimensions : Frame : 510mm x 428mm x 20mm. Image : 295mm x 200mm.
Condition/Notes : Quite good. The sepia toned photograph is in quite good condition. The image of H.M.S. Hercules is clear and detailed but unfortunately there is a surface crease extending 25mm at 45 degrees at 60mm from the lower lh corner at the lower edge of the photograph. The crease is in the sea and does not affect the image of the battleship. H.M.S. Hercules was launched 10 May 1910, commissioned 31 July 1911 and sold for scrap at Kiel 8 November 1921. She had a distinguished career and took part in the Battle of Jutland. The photograph is mounted on an off-white card and presented on charcoal coloured display as was the style of the period. The polished decorative wooden frame is in quite good condition except for a missing 30mm section of the moulded surround at the top lh corner. The back of the frame is plain wood and the mount board is secured by old headless framing nails partly sealed with 38mm self-adhesive framing tape. Remnants of the original backing sheet are gummed to the board in places. Screw-eyes and cord attached. An interesting and historical photograph of this famous battleship.
International buyers please note that due to the weight of the frame the shipping quotes are for the unframed photograph on mount. If the frame is required please contact me for an alternative quote.
