Robin Hood's Bay, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, watercolour on paper, signed by Michael Crawley.
Dimensions : Frame : 575mm x 440mm x 13mm. Image : 382mm x 237mm.
Condition/Notes : Good. The watercolour painting depicts the village of Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire as viewed from the cliffs above the village. The painting is in good condition with strong colours. The painting captures the isolation of the location and the natural defences of the settlement. The sky is overcast but the sun's rays are breaking through the clouds and beaming down to the foreshore. The scene is quite unusual for this well known and prolific artist whose works are predominantly centred on the English county of Derbyshire apart from his period in the United States where he created many works. The painting is signed in the artist's usual manner in the lower rh corner. The painting is displayed within a textured lined white mount which is in good condition. The simple black wooden frame is in quite good condition with wear and scratching to the edges. The back of the frame is closed with a sheet of cardboard secured by panel pins and sealed with 50mm gummed framing tape. The title -Robin Hood's Bay- is written in handscript top lh corner.
