Condition/Notes : The impressionistic style watercolour on paper painting is in good condition with good colour and no damage or moisture. There are a few very small spots in places but these are of no consequence. The painting depicts the large house on the corner approach to Bank Hill which can be seen today in very similar conditions. The composition is nicely balanced with the large tree being the focus of attention and the remnants of the ivy on the house gable end catching the eye and drawing the viewer to the drive-way at the right with the thought of where it leads. The artist's signature, in his usual manner, is in the lower rh corner and the title is written in pencil handscript on the lower mount edge. The work is displayed within a double grey inner and arctic white outer mount combination and the toning of the cut edges fortuitously complements the russet of the foliage on the left of the scene. The gilt lined wooden frame is in good condition with light wear, backed with a sheet of hardboard secured by arrow points and sealed with 28mm self-adhesive tape. Framer's label is attached and the artist's label with address and phone number also attached in lower rh corner. Screw-eyes and cord attached. A pleasant impressionistic study of this English village by a known Nottinghamshire artist. Please view the images below :
