Condition/Notes : Quite good. The softback cover has unfortunately been covered with a sheet of heavy duty Kraft type paper which appears to have been used as the shipping medium as it bears a postmark and a 1d postage stamp plus remnants of another to the upper edge. The title Up-to-Date Gardening has been written in handscript across the face. There is printed text to the inner front and back cover but this is mostly concealed by the paper cover which has been gummed to the inside; this could possibly be carefully removed. The softback cover is detached from the volume due to rusting of the three staples. The first 6 pages are devoted to advertising relating to gardening products etc and are very interesting and detailed. Attached to the first page is an interesting letter from the author Henry Vincent on his headed writing-paper dated Feb 5th 1911 to Mr. Kyle giving advice on setting up an allotment in May but advising that he charges one and six a letter for this service; letter signed Faithfully H. Vincent all in handscript.  Further attached to this letter is a cutting from a newspaper relating to Henry Vincent. Further, attached to the third page is a letter typewritten from The Editor, The Smallholder Journal, Maiden Lane, London dated 21 Mar 1911, with a copy attached of their Expert's reply to Mr. Kyle's question relating to running a smallholding. Following the advertising is the frontispiece with half plate photograph of Henry Vincent with his statement of belief below. Facing is The Earl of Wemyss' opinion of Henry Vincent's System. Verso is a full page summary of Mr. H. Rider Haggard's address to the Royal Institution on "Rural England" which supports the System of Henry Vincent.
