The study depicts H.M.S. Calliope as seen off Dover probably on her maiden voyage March 1887. She was built at H.M. Served as a training ship until 1951 when she was sold for breaking. The lithograph is titled "H.M.S. "Calliope," 3rd Class Cruiser" lower border centre and "J.S. Virtue & Co. Ltd. Lith." rh lower border in faint print. There is toning to the border edges along the acidic-mount window cut edges; lining to the mount which is in quite good condition.
