The Island, Grasmere, Lake District, chromolithograph of the original watercolour titled The Island Grasmere, signed Roy Gregory, c1940. Original ebonized frame.

The watercolour painting depicts the island in Lake Grasmere, Lake District, England, with the ferryboat transiting from the mainland to the island. The original watercolour is signed Roy Gregory in the lower lh corner amongst the water reeds.

The chromolithograph is in good condition with good colour and no damage. Displayed within a stone coloured double-lined mount against a grey coloured backing board. The title, The Island, Grasmere, is printed in dark ink below the lower lh corner of the mount window and artist's name Roy Gregory printed below the rh corner of the mount window.

The ebonized wooden frame is in sound condition with light scuffing in places to the edges. Heavy cardboard backing secured by old rusty nails, sealed with gummed Kraft paper and old cream coloured framing tape, detached in places. Cosmetic re-sealing of the backing board will be sufficient to improve the framing with light cleaning to the inner glazing. No visible script verso although frame maintenance may reveal internal script. Hanging cord attached to old rings.

Any interesting work by this known 20thC British landscape and portrait artist officially known as Roland Charles Leslie Gregory but usually signing his work as Roy Gregory.

Windermere, chromolithographic print with stippling of watercolour landscape, unsigned. Titled Windermere in black print.

The chromolithographic print is typical of the late 19thC printing process and is in quite good condition with good colour but a few light surface creases in places and a small 12mm long tear in the lower rh corner and a small 4mm x 3mm triangular loss visible in the extreme lower rh corner adjacent to the mount window, all not particularly noticeable in normal viewing. Vertical undulation of the paper support.

The study depicts part of Lake Windermere with a small rowing-boat and two figures on the foreshore and a distant sailing boat set against the rolling hills and mountains. No visible signature but titled Windermere in black print lower rh corner.

The print is displayed within the original stone coloured mount which is in quite good condition but with general surface dusting and a 15mm wide toning band running vertically across the middle of the lower mount board but not affecting the print. The wooden frame, with machine carved decoration to inner edges, is in good sturdy condition but with losses to the decoration in places and light scuffing. Two wooden sheets forming backing board with 10mm gap between in centre, securely nailed in place. No visible script. Original dust-sheet remnants along frame edges. Hanging wire attached to screw-eyes.
