Market-Place and Exchange, Nottingham, wood engraving, titled below. c1852.

Possible signature lower lh corner T. Allom but the same engraving is attributed to Edward Killingworth Johnson (1825-1896) in some references.

The wood engraving is in quite good condition with post-colouring; good definition, light foxing in places and a 10mm piece of thin lint above the lh top corner of the Exchange Building (which can be removed on opening frame). In the extreme lh corner below the cross-stays, in the pink coloured area, there is incorporated possible script resembling "Allom", hence the attribution to Thomas Allom. As this work has been attributed to Edward Killingworth Johnson in alternative listings and references the actual artist/engraver is open to debate.

The engraving is displayed within the original double wash-line stone coloured mount which is in good condition but with general dusting.

The period gilt edged ebonized wooden frame is in good sturdy condition with very light scuffing. Backing card sealed with framing tape. Pink coloured framer's label attached lower centre "Anqiue Maps and Engravings Hand Coloured from Ian H. R. Cowley 233-235 Mansfield Road Nottingham"  with handscript below "Wood Engraving c1852". Below is another gold label "Framed by Ian H.R. Cowley 233-235 Mansfield Road Nottingham Order No 1060".  Hanging cord attached.
