Steam locomotove 4-6-2T 3MT Class A5/1 69808 arriving Nottingham Victoria Station c1959, framed and glazed.

Dimensions : Frame : 355mm x 305mm x 19mm. Image : 200mm x 150mm.

Condition/Notes : Very good. The black and white photograph is in very good condition. The steam locomotive pulling 6 carriages is arriving at the old Nottingham Victoria Station c1959 with images of the surrounding buildings above the station. This is now part of the Victoria Shopping Centre Nottingham. A very interesting historical photograph. The photograph is displayed within a cream coloured mount which is also in good condition.

The stained wooden frame is in fair condition with scratches and scuffing and a 15mm damaged section of the rh gilt inner edge at 50mm down from the top rh inner corner. There are two drilled screw holes, one in the upper and one in the lower horizontals of the frame where it has been attached to a wall. The back of the frame is covered with a sheet of board secured by framing pins and sealed with gummed framing tape. A label is attached which states "Title : Nottingham Victoria".

A very interesting historical photograph of this class of steam locomotive which was introduced in 1911 Robinson G.C. design. At the time of this photograph there were 25 locomotives of this class in service. The number 69808 can also be faintly made out on the side of the tender.

Brixham Trawlers, Waiting for a Breeze, 1889, reproduction from the Francis Frith Collection 1860-1940, framed and glazed. Copyright Victorian View 1978, Finchampstead, Berkshire. Reference number 21556.

Condition/Notes : Good. The vintage photograph from the famous Francis Frith collection shows part of the Brixham Trawler fleet awaiting a breeze in 1889. An interesting aspect of this photograph is the old pre-1902 registration numbers of the trawlers which at that time were registered in Dartmouth as Brixham had not yet achieved the registration requirements. The Frith Collection reference number of this photograph is 21556. There are a few minor scuffs to the laminate surface but these are not particularly noticeable in normal viewing. An interesting and historical photograph of interest to collectors of Brixham or Fishing Industry memorabilia.

Composite Panoramic Sepia Photograph of Gibraltar Harbour with HMS Duke of Edinburgh c1914. Framed. Maritime.

Composite Panoramic Sepia tone Photograph of Gibraltar Harbour. Dimensions : Frame : 395mm x 1025mm x 21mm. Image : 200mm x 840mm. Weight : 3.000kg. Condition : Good.

Composite Panoramic mild sepia tone Photograph of Gibraltar Harbour with H.M.S. Duke of Edinburgh in port, c1914. Framed.

Please note due to the large glazed frame there are reflections in the images above which do not exist in normal viewing conditions. Please contact if you have any queries regarding this.

The photograph is in good condition but there is a 20mm long horizontal surface scratch at the rh edge of the photograph in the sky to the right of the masts of the cruiser in the inner harbour. It is not particularly noticeable in normal viewing and does not detract from the image. There are also two vertical toning bands, one crossing HMS Duke of Edinburgh and the other crossing the lower half of the near centre of the first photographic section in the sea and up to the mid-slopes behind the buildings. These two sunlight related toning bands again are not particularly noticeable in normal viewing and do not spoil the enjoyment of the image. They are also somewhat ephemeral depending on the ambient light! The two vertical overlapping gummed joints of the three photograph sections are also visible but again do not detract from the overall panoramic view.

The photograph from the sea is of historical interest. It is particularly interesting having the identification of H.M.S. Duke of Edinburgh taking stores at moorings. Examination of the R.N. log-books March 1914 - February 1915 Mediterranean Fleet 1913-14 1st Cruiser Squadron confirms that the armed cruiser was on voyage Portsmouth to Castellamare Sicily, departing Portsmouth 5th March 1914, entering Gibraltar harbour 10th March 1914, discharging ratings, loading coal and taking bunkers, departing Gibraltar 11th March 1914, this being the only time she was in the port in 1914.

The photograph is displayed within a double mount comprising a stone coloured outer mount and a brown coloured inner mount which complements the sepia tone of the photograph. A cut-out window in the lower centre outer mount reveals the image title "GIBRALTAR circa 1914 HMS Duke of Edinburgh in the foreground" in brown print. The heavy wooden frame is in good condition with light scuffing in places; hardboard backing secured by modern points and sealed with 70mm gummed framing tape. Hanging cord attached to metal lugs.

Ready to display. Heavy.

Please view the images. Contact for any enquiries. Please note there are reflections in the images caused by the large glazing of the frame.

Chlorobromide photographic print on original board display, c1880. Dimensions : Mount : 456mm x 319mm. Card : 326mm x 247mm. Photograph : 289mm x 223mm. Condition : Good.

Elliott & Fry original chlorobromide photographic print mounted on cream coloured card and displayed on grey backing board which was part of the presentation folder signed Elliot & Fry, c1868.

The photographic print is in very good condition with no damage or marking. The print is gummed to the cream coloured card mount which is signed Elliott & Fry in the lower rh border corner. This card is gummed to the original grey coloured backing board of the presentation folder used by the company. There are some foxing spots in the cream card's border. The grey coloured backing board has two tones, the inner being a lighter tone and would have been the size of the protective dust sheet and the wider lh border would have been the hinged side hence the off-centre layout of the photograph. See the images above.

The back of the board has the company's stamp in the centre "Elliott & Fry, Ltd., 55, Baker Street, W. No, 3272 68 O. D COPYRIGHT". This address indicates that the photograph is pre-1886 which was the date when the business extended to 55-56 Baker Street. and the 68 in the order number probably indicates the year 1868.

The portrait has not yet been identified.

Please view the images above.

An interesting historical photograph created by this very well known Victorian Photographic Studio company.

A lightly tinted photograph of two fishing boats in moonlight in the Thames Estuary, c1950.

The photograph is in good condition with light bluish tone to the surface of the sea. The reflection of the moonlight forms the striking centre of the image and the fishing boats are silhouetted against the grey lightly clouded horizon topped by an interesting dark undulating cap above the clouds.

The photograph is displayed within a gilt mount which is in good condition.

The original standard glazed gilt wooden frame is in good sturdy condition with scratching and scuffing commensurate with age. Cardboard backing board secured by numerous rusty panel pins and sealed with gummed tape. Lightly inscribed in pale blue ink "Dixon 8/-" in the top lh corner. Thick hanging cord attached to old screw-eyes and rings.
